Our Story

“Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit” says the Lord of hosts. (Zechariah 3:7)

Welcome to West Coast Family Church!

Our greatest desire is to see people fully released into their destiny in Christ, living victoriously because of obedience to His Word, a life in His Spirit and making a difference to the world in which we live.

West Coast Family Church is a part of a family of churches known as COTN (Church of the Nations). The mission declaration of COTN is “A Family of Apostolic Clusters, Advancing the Kingdom of God”. Their vision is to plant, build and strengthen local churches, with the goal of advancing God’s Kingdom.

May you experience the love of God, the fellowship of being a part of a community of believers and find your home at West Coast Family Church.

In His Love

Our Mission

West Coast Family Church was founded on 3 “keys” which forms the foundation of whom we are:

1. Reaching our Community

We want to see people reached for the Kingdom through authentic relationships and come into a lasting “first love” relationship with Jesus Christ, into a caring community and a victorious lifestyle, based on biblical truth and life in the Holy Spirit.

2. Equipping the Family

We want people equipped to be disciples of Jesus with a Kingdom outlook, so that they can fulfil their God-given destiny and purpose.

3. Sending the Sons & Daughters

We want to see Kingdom-minded son’s sown into the marketplace to see the restoration of all things, taking the gospel to the nations.

We encourage everyone through prayer and by working as a team, to believe God for the fulfilment of His vision with faithfulness, loyalty, integrity and commitment to one another.

Our Vision

Our Vision is for people to come into a loving relationship with God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit, to be rightly related with the Godhead and with people in the family and in the community. We want people who through the power of the Holy Spirit impact society with the Kingdom message.

Statement of Faith

What we believe?

We believe in one God, eternally existing in three Persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

We believe the Bible teaches that without holiness no man can see the Lord.

The Church is open to any further truth, which the Holy Spirit may illuminate from the Scriptures.

We believe in the personal bodily return of the Lord Jesus Christ.

We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten of the Father, conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary and is true God and true man.

We believe in the bodily resurrection of the Lord Jesus, His Ascension into Heaven, and His present life as our High Priest and Advocate.

We believe that divine healing was provided for in the Old Testament and is an integral part of the Gospel.

We believe in the divinely ordained ministries of Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor and Teacher.

We believe in and subscribe to the Biblical principle of heterosexual relationships between a natural man and a natural woman and that this is the only marriage relationship that constitutes holy matrimony.

We believe in the doctrine of sanctification as a definite, yet progressive work of grace, commencing at the time of the new birth and continuing until the consummation of salvation.

We believe that all whom repent of their sin and receive the Lord Jesus Christ by faith are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God.

We believe that baptism in water is a personal and dynamic meeting with God and a sign of the believer’s death, burial and resurrection in Jesus Christ.

We believe in the baptism in the Holy Spirit, empowering and equipping believers for service, with the accompanying supernatural gifts of the Holy Spirit; and in fellowship with the Holy Spirit.

We believe that elders carry the responsibility for oversight and care of the members. Where necessary elders must carry out biblical discipline for the protection of the local Church.

We believe in the resurrection of both the just and the unjust, the eternal blessedness of the redeemed and the eternal banishment of this who have rejected the offer of salvation.

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins as a substitutionary sacrifice according to the Scriptures and that all who believe in Him are justified on the grounds of His shed blood.

We believe that the one true Church is the whole company of those who have been redeemed by Jesus Christ and regenerated by the Holy Spirit, that the local church on earth should take its character from the conception of the Church and therefore that the new birth and personal confession of Christ are essentials of church membership.

We believe that God created man in His own image; that man sinned and thereby incurred the penalty of sin which is death, physical and spiritual; that all human beings inherit a sinful nature which issues (in the cases of those who reach moral responsibility) in actual transgression involving personal guilt.

We believe in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments in their original writing as fully inspired of God and accept them as the supreme and final authority for faith, life and the governance of this Church.

We believe in the continuance of the Lord’s Supper and that it is the partaking of the emblems symbolic of the Saviour’s broken body and shed blood, in remembrance of His sacrificial death, till He comes.

We have some essential core value which have fixed beliefs and convictions that we will not compromise. They are values that define us, unite us and sets the way in which we work out our Godly mandate, mission and vision. These values are there for church-life and marketplace-life:

  • Intimacy with God
  • Obedience to the voice of God
  • The integrity and authority of the Word
  • The priesthood of every believer
  • Fathers and Sons
  • Prayer
  • Praise and Worship
  • A lifestyle yielded to the Holy Spirit
  • Servanthood
  • Family
  • A prophetic church, rather than an institutional church
  • Missions
  • Team ministry
  • Evangelism
  • Authority
  • Resource church
  • Apostolic leadership
  • Wider body of Christ

Cornerstone Beliefs

1. God is Good!
All His Judgements are aimed at everything that is against His Love! – Mike Bickle.
The predominant purpose that Jesus has, is to reveal the Father (not a taskmaster, general of an army, or a lawyer). A true revelation of the Father leads us away from having to work to obtain His Favour, to a place where we work from a place of Favour in Him; a place in which we are Loved, Accepted and Forgiven; a place of security, because He chose us and adopted us into His Family. All this is not because of our worthiness, but because of the price He was willing to pay to redeem each one of us from a life of destruction into a life for which He created us (purposed for us from before the creation of the world).
2. Everything we will ever need was purchased at the Cross!
Ephesians 4: 4-9! It is going to take eons in eternity to even scratch the surface of what Grace is all about. “In Heaven, so also on earth” – in Heaven there is a function and a purpose for each of us. This function and purpose is the reason God placed you in the world at exactly the right time and season. The Cross makes it possible for us to find our reason, purpose and destiny. Living with this awareness causes us to fight from a place of victory; not for a victory. “It is Finished!” We are journeying from the Triumph of Christ towards the situations that each of us faces every day. The death, burial and resurrection not only paid the price for us, but for our neighbours, or cities, our nation and the whole world. We are fighting from His Triumph over sin and death for them as well!
3. Gospel of the Kingdom versus the Gospel of Salvation.
Understanding the Gospel as the Gospel of Salvation has inevitably led us into a dead end. It has led us to understand that, beyond receiving Jesus as Saviour, there is nothing more. It has led us to understand that our only goal is to get people saved and to fill our churches.
The Gospel of the Kingdom, however, declares that there is a purpose and destiny for each of us that comes through Salvation and will give us a function in His Kingdom that will lead to Revelation 11 verse 15 – “The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!” Each of us has a role to fulfil in this journey. It can only come into reality through Salvation, and a clear understanding of our identity in Him, and developing our understanding of Faith into a practical lifestyle.
4. The “Ekklesia” of Jesus Christ.
Matthew 16: 18. We have to ask ourselves the following questions,
“What did Jesus see when He said that He will build His Church!”
“Is our church doing what He saw?”

The “Ekklesia” that Jesus was referring to, came from the Roman culture that they were being exposed to. Rome had a formula that was followed to change the culture of a region they were annexing. They wanted that region to develop the same culture that they had in Rome. In order to do this, they choose their top officials from the different domains (Government, Business, Education, Arts, Family, Religion, etc.) and formed them into a team that had the express command of going into a foreign culture and transforming it to become a Roman Culture.

Jesus chose this concept to describe the Church that He is building. A group of His Followers that would go into all the world and transform that culture into the culture of His Kingdom and His Heaven (Matthew 28: 18-20). Each Believer that worked in a particular Domain would have His Call on their life to help Him transform the culture and praxis of that domain into the culture and praxis of the Kingdom.

Isaiah saw the significance and result of this kind of Church and prophesied it in Isaiah 2: 1-4. He saw Jesus’ Church as a mountain that was higher than all the other mountains. He saw the Church as having answers to all the issues that the world would face, and that the world leaders would come to the Church of Jesus to find out how she managed to overcome the problems (Isaiah 60: 1-3); and the kings are coming in this day that we are living.

5. Family is the structure of a Kingdom church.
The Bible begins with a Father and son and will end with the Father, fathers and sons.
1John 2: 12-14 gives us a clear picture of the Family structure in the Kingdom Church. It gives a clear picture of the development of little children, growing through the young men phase, to becoming fathers. It also alludes to the responsibilities of each phase.

The Kingdom Church is never described with a “Pyramidal” form of leadership, but always as a Family; an Extended Family! In this Family we Honour the different functions that Father has called us to fulfil, both male and female. These functions are recognised by the fathers, and space is created for every member of the Family to excel and go beyond the levels the fathers achieved. Every true father cheers on their sons and daughters to go further than they ever went!

6. Nothing is impossible to His sons!
God is our Father and His Inheritance is for His sons (Ephesians 1: 3-14). The possibility of infinite authority and power and resources, is opened to us who believe (Mark 9: 23). We are called to invade realms of impossibility; to bring these realms, called impossible by some, to bow their knees to the Lordship and King-dominion of Jesus.

His sons and daughters are significant (both male and female!). Our significance is found in His significance. Each one of us represent an aspect of His Image that is unique to whom we are. As we journey together in unity of purpose, the world will not only experience a transformation of culture, but will also begin to recognise the Father in what is happening.

7. Each Believer is a priest, a king and an Ambassador for the King.
2 Peter 2: 9 & 10

These are not titles that we affix to our names, but functions that we fulfil as servants of the Family. Our highest calling and honour is in being called sons by our Father who served us in order for us to have the opportunity to receive the free gift He was holding out to us.

As priests, we serve one another and all mankind before our God and Father. We pray, and fast, and intercede for all our families to be united as one in His Family; and for all the sons to mature and become fathers to the little children and young men. We intercede for those, in the world, who don’t know the Father yet. It is their right to hear the Gospel of the Kingdom once, before anyone hears it twice.

As kings, we take up our responsibility to shine away the darkness (Genesis 1: 26-28; Matthew 10: 7 & 8; Romans 8: 18-23). In humility, we take our responsibility in each domain (mountain) very seriously. His Authority has been given to us to transform that culture. He has called us to do it His Way (John 20: 21; 5: 19; 8: 28).

As Ambassadors, we represent His Kingdom in a foreign territory. We take land for Him and speak only what He tells us to speak. We go into the entire world, so that He has a representation that covers all territories, and so that the leaven (Kingdom values and principles) can begin to leaven the lump of dough (World Systems of darkness).

COTN (Church of the Nations) Connection

West Coast Family Church is a member of an international family of churches known as Church of the Nations. It is not a denomination, but an apostolic network of churches held together by relationships. Our aim is simple. We are here to build a family of churches reaching nations.

We have representations in over fifty nations and based on simple family values and relationships, COTN continues to grow and change lives. We have minimal structure founded on the Hebrew model of family and hold ourselves accountable to one another through meaningful, growing relationships based on fatherhood and sonship.

West Coast Christian School

From the beginning of time, the Commission that God gave the people that placed their trust and hope in Him is very clear:
Genesis 1: 28 – God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be Fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and every living thing that moves on the earth.”

This Commission was repeated by Jesus in different words:
Matthew 28: 18, 19 – “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptising them in the Name of the Father and the Son and of the Holy Spirit,”

There are many Domains that a Local Church can get involved in in bringing Heaven to earth – “Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.” (Matt. 6:10). West Coast Family Church has, since its inception and drafting of its Constitution, emphasised their commitment to be influencers in the Domain of Education. In order to have a voice in this domain, West Coast Christian School was started in 1997 and caters for learners from Grade R to Grade 12. The School was registered with the Department of Education and enjoys a good standing with the Western Cape Education Department.

As a result of opening the doors for Believers to minister in this area:

1. Approximately 200 learners have the privilege of being schooled in a Christian Environment that not only caters for an excellent standard of Academics, but also focusses on developing the Character of each learner. Each Learner works at their own speed through work that they daily set goals for under the guidance of a Supervisor (Qualified Academic) and Monitor (Teacher’s Aid). It is the School’s Value that the Parents are responsible for the education of their children; it is the Children’s responsibility to work; and it is the Teacher’s responsibility to make sure this process happens. Over the 18 years of the School’s Life, there have been many graduates that have gone on to University and qualified in many diverse occupations.

2. There is Professional communication with the Department of Education. Our Staff are often invited to participate in seminars offered by the Department and it is here where ideas and strategies can be shared. It is our prayer that the Presence of God in us will have an effect on the Education in our City, Province and Country. To that end, we keep on participating and sharing the Wisdom that Father gives us in each situation.

3. The Building at 1a Sandown Road, that was built by West Coast Family Church, is utilised every day of the week. The investment made by every member, that provided a home for the Church, is also being used for the greater benefit and good of the whole community.

West Coast Christian School does not only provide work for Educators, but also for those with the Gift of Administration. With a Budget of over 4 Million Rand a year, the administration must be of an excellent nature. The Administrators have to implement the Budget set by our Accountant, and be responsible for the Stock of Books needed by each individual Learner.

God has been Faithful in bringing this School into being; He has been Faithful in carrying us this far; and we believe that He will be Faithful in helping us to finish strong. May His Wisdom and Creativity be clearly seen in the education systems of our country in the future.
